Christmas gift wrapping: 5 ideas
That gorgeous present under the Christmas tree has been beckoning you for weeks. What could it possibly contain? Beautifully wrapped presents have enormous appeal. Five wrapping tips to make your Christmas presents truly sparkle under the tree.
Wrapping tip #1
Choose your wrapping paper carefully
The wrapping paper you use pretty much determines the outcome. Wrapping paper comes in all shapes and sizes. Thick paper often looks nicer than very thin paper. We’d advise choosing festive colours, such as gold, silver and blue with glitter, immediately giving the gift a chic look. A gift also looks better if you add a layer of transparent cellophane over the wrapping paper. You could even design your own wrapping paper. That’ll really steal the show!
Wrapping tip #2
Nothing beats a bow!
A bow gives your present an instant boost, without much effort. All you need is a pretty ribbon or string, or two strings or ribbons in different colours blended together around the gift. How do you make a pretty bow? First, cut the string or ribbon to the right length so that it can be wrapped around the present twice. Then lay the ribbon across the front of the present, lengthwise. At the back of the present, twist the ends of the ribbon around each other and turn the ribbon a quarter turn. Then twist the ribbon around the width of the gift. Where the ribbons cross, make a bow. That’s it! Tip: try not to get the bow exactly in the middle. This is very difficult and you will notice immediately if you have not succeeded. Better to choose to put the bow on the side on purpose, giving it a playful look.
Wrapping tip #3
Create a fold
This tip takes very little effort and makes a big difference. It works best when you have gift paper with a different print on each side. If the inside and outside are the same, the effect is less, but it can still add a nice touch. Cut the wrapping paper about five centimetres longer than needed. Then fold the paper back along its entire length, so that the inside of the paper shows over that strip. Stick this on with some tape. Next, wrap the gift. The fold will give the Christmas gift an elegant look.
Wrapping tip #4
Add a gift labelAdding a gift label is the icing on the cake, completing the look. You could create your own, or go with our Christmas label that we’ve designed, nice and easy!
Wrapping tip #5
Add a touch of Christmas
To further accentuate the Christmas theme, add a Christmas detail. This can be anything, as long as it evokes a Christmas feeling in you. Some holly or a pine twig you found in the woods. Or add a small bauble, angel or star to your gift. Another great idea is to add a wooden Christmas decoration, engraved with a personal message for the recipient.
If you’ve applied all of these tips, you will definitely steal the show this Christmas!
